Fan creates beautiful mock up of Mortal Kombat’s Kitana for MultiVersus, game’s director likes it but says ‘no promises’

Fans want Mortal Kombat characters in MultiVersus. This request is one that sparked up almost immediately after the platform fighter was officially announced as this is technically a legitimate possibility with MultiVersus and Mortal Kombat both being under the Warner Bros. umbrella.

One fan recently drew up an amazing looking mock up for one of the series’ most popular characters, Kitana, showing what she could look like if she was added to the free-to-play fighter. The piece is so good, in fact, that it grabbed the attention of MultiVersus Game Director Tony Huynh, but this attention alone doesn’t mean the crossover will ever come to fruition.

While Huynh is clearly a fan of the piece by artist Fztr, he makes sure to clearly state that he makes no promises that Kitana will actually join the playable roster. This is a shame, though understandable, but it feels like fans certainly know that the MultiVersus development team would be remiss if they didn’t add someone from Mortal Kombat into the game.

Mortal Kombat is one of the longest running and most popular fighting game franchises in existence, so to not have characters from it in a crossover fighting game when you very likely have permission to use them seems like an odd choice.

Still, we can always dream and get a great idea of what these types of additions could look like thanks to top notch artwork like the one by Fztr. This Kitana is depicted in more of a cartoony style, but that is perfectly fitting for a game that has numerous cartoon characters all slugging it out in 2v2 battles.

The design is also clearly inspired by her Mortal Kombat 11 version, and it’s a strong choice. We can only hope Kitana (or perhaps Sub-Zero or Scorpion) someday find their way into the game.

MultiVersus has its open beta available now and just added its newest playable character, LeBron James from Space Jam, to the roster. It is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
